The card changes every year, and most disagreements at the table come from players working off different years. Before the first deal:
- Confirm everyone has the current year's card. Cards expire at the end of the season. If someone is using last year's, you will be playing two different games.
- Read the joker rules on the card, out loud. Some hands forbid jokers, others restrict them. This is the most misread part of every card.
- Check the flower section. Which hands use flowers, and how many, changes more than any other section.
- Agree on the second Charleston and the courtesy pass. Both are optional, and both cause arguments when they are assumed.
Two minutes, once per session, and most of the avoidable disputes disappear.
