Three minutes a day is enough. Pick a stage, read the tile and hit its name — or, in the find-it stages, tap every copy of the tile the prompt asks for. Your accuracy and your average reaction time become a single number, your Tile IQ.
Tile IQ is a recognition drill built on the real 152-tile American set: dots, bams and craks in one through nine, the four winds, the three dragons, eight flowers and eight jokers. Two question types are used. In a name-it stage one tile is shown and you choose its name. In a find-it stage a grid of tiles is shown and you tap every copy of the tile named in the prompt.
Each question is timed. A correct answer records how long it took; a wrong answer or a timeout costs you the question and shows you the right name. At the end of a stage you get an accuracy percentage, an average reaction time, and a Tile IQ that combines both — answering slowly but perfectly and answering fast but carelessly both land in the same place. Clearing a stage with three stars means answering almost everything correctly, and answering quickly.
Reading tiles fast is not a party trick. It is what lets you sort a rack in the first ten seconds of a hand, spot what the Charleston just gave you, and notice the tile you need before the player on your left discards it.
