Tap two matching free tiles to clear them. A tile is free when nothing sits on top of it and at least one long side is open. All eight flowers match each other, and any joker is wild — it matches whatever free tile you tap, so it can clear an otherwise stuck spot.
Mahjong Solitaire is a one-player matching game played with a full set of American mahjong tiles. Tiles are stacked in layers; you clear the board by removing pairs of matching tiles, but you may only pick up a free tile — one with no tile on top of it and with either its left or its right side open. Every deal here is generated so that it can be finished, so a game you cannot finish is always a matter of move order, never a bad shuffle.
The board uses the real 152-tile American set: dots, bams and craks in one through nine, four winds, three dragons, eight flowers and eight jokers. Flowers pair with flowers, and a joker is wild — it matches any tile it is tapped against, the same way players treat the American set's jokers at the table. Matching by suit and number is the same skill you use to read a rack against the National Mah Jongg League card, so the drill carries straight over to live play.
There are eight levels. Warm-up starts at 38 tiles on two layers; Steps, Long wall, Pyramid, Deep well and Twin roof add tiles and layers; High fort reaches 124 tiles and The 152 uses the entire American set on four layers. Each level is timed and rated from one to three stars, and your stars and unlocked levels are remembered on this device.
